Chapter Five – What he does not want to lose (hint – it’s not his money)
“I can’t believe you are doing this. Now I have to start over. I never thought I would have to start over at this stage in my life.”
Really, motherfucker?
When I found out my husband cheated on my, my first instinct was to file for divorce. I was serious. I refused to be married to a man who cheated. Yes, me. Peaches. After being with other people’s husbands and then finally settling down, being married to a cheater just wouldn’t do. But, I could not understand his reaction. I mean, he knew he cheated and he knew how I (and any rational woman) felt about it. Yet, he could not believe I was divorcing him. Then, a friend finally explained it to me.
Men don’t want to get married; they just want to be married. It’s hard to catch them and tie them down, but once you do, they don’t want to go back to being single. Being single is stressful and a lot of work. They do not want to have to go through that again. It’s also the reason men get married very quickly after a divorce – because they are used to a certain way of life and they do not want to put forth the effort that it takes to be single. The funny thing is, marriage is work too. But, they don’t see marriage as work because they have help from their wife. Eventually, all the work falls on the wife and the husband is free to do whatever he wants. He has all the comforts and accoutrements of marriage and none of the responsibilities.
So, basically my husband was saying that he could not believe that he was not going to have anyone to dump all of his work off on and he was going to have to do shit for himself. He was not happy about that. I’m sorry to have inconvenienced you.
If men don’t want to lose it all, then why do their dumb asses cheat in the first place? It never ceases to amaze me the number of men who so willingly and carelessly jeopardize the family they have at home. One can never claim to know what goes on in the minds of all men but I feel more than compelled to take a stab at it. Please understand that when I reference "Men", I am speaking in general terms and it does not apply to all men. Additionally, I use the term loosely in that real men would not get caught up in such foolishness.
Before we can understand why they do the stupid things they do, we must first try to understand what is going on in their heads. It's almost like there is streaming audio playing in their brains and the same messages are being played over and over again. Those messages are then interpreted and lead to actions that are consistent with their thought process. Some of those messages they hear are:
